  • 1 WHERE IS IT? Students use a graphics application package and scanner to import information concerning national tourist sites.
  • 3 JOB SEARCH This page helps students to examine and understand the advantages of using IT systems in their search for a career, and requires them to create a word-processed table of information based on these.
  • 5 CV UPDATE Students make a list of the qualities and experience that companies in the leisure and tourism industries look for in prospective employees. They re-write their CV for a particular job in either industry, and then re-design it using a word-processing or desktop publishing package.

  • 13 READ ALL ABOUT IT! Students plan a country fair on the local common and produce a flier to publicise it, using a desktop publishing program.
  • 15 THE BEST IMAGE Students use a graphics package to design a logo for a hotel, bearing in mind the 'house' image they want to convey. Students also incorporate their logo onto headed notepaper for the hotel. For this task, they could use a desktop publishing, word-processing, or graphics application.
  • 17 LEISURE TIME This page asks students to create and use a spreadsheet in order to process numerical data. The use of personal leisure time within a group of young people is the topic.
  • 19 PROFIT MARGINS This page invites students to enter returns data and formulae for calculations onto a spreadsheet, and to draw charts from the data. The charts are then used in memos written to leisure centres to encourage good performance (combination of data by Object Linking and Embedding).
  • 21 MAILSHOT Students look at ways of encouraging visitors to come to a campsite. They word process a letter and use mail merge to do a mailshot to potential customers.
  • 23 WHICH RESORT? Students examine the factors that influence people's choices of holiday destination and resort. Students use this information to create a database which customers can use to help decide on the destination and resort for their holidays.
  • 25 KNOW YOUR VISITORS Students examine the advantages and disadvantages of library computerisation. Students interrogate a pre-prepared database and consider the ways in which such a database might be used by a library to improve its service to customers.
  • 27 RECORD IT! Students use a database to record different types of customer information or fields in the leisure and tourism industry.
  • 29 PLANNING AHEAD Students plan a day trip for a group of ten year-olds to two museums. They use a spreadsheet to help them arrange the day's events in a suitable order. This is a useful preliminary exercise for students to do before they actually plan an event themselves.
  • 31 COUNTING CUSTOMERS This page introduces students to the use of a financial spreadsheet application in the leisure and tourism industry.
  • 33 BREAK TIME Students write a report on the leisure activities young people enjoy in their local area. To do this, they conduct a survey and input the data from the survey into a spreadsheet.
