• 7 TELEPHONE TROUBLES This page focuses on the different dynamics in written and spoken exchanges between an employee and a dissatisfied customer, and compares the effectiveness of telephone communication to that of a written exchange.
• 9 REPLY PLEASE This page requires students to determine exactly what a series of messages from customers are asking for and then to respond to each in writing, referring to a complex set of terms and conditions.
• 11 BUSINESS TRIP This page aims to help students extract and use information in order to make an informed choice between various alternative modes of travel.
• 13 GETTING THERE This page asks students to gather information, and then to make an informal comparison of options and display their recommendations.
• 15 LOCAL SERVICES This page requires students to locate a range of local services via Yellow Pages, to assess what such listings might reveal about each service and to compile a list of local companies to fulfil a specified business requirement.
• 17 MAPS AND DIRECTIONS This page looks at students' ability to interpret a map and issue clear instructions in both spoken and written form. Students will give oral directions and compose written ones, and compare the clarity of each type of instruction.
• 19 WHAT'S IN A CHART? This page considers the range and type of information that can be presented in bar chart form.
• 21 A SLICE OF THE PIE Students consider the use of a pie chart as a means of displaying the results of a simple piece of research and devise a survey which they could conduct within the school/college to generate a pie chart.
• 23 PUT ON THE SPOT Students are encouraged to look at their own reactions to the issue of an employee passively colluding with a colleague's confessed absenteeism.
• 25 IDENTITY AND VISUALS This page focuses on non-verbal elements of mass communication. It directs students' attention towards familiar company logos and catch-phrases in order to analyse and discover some common elements that go into their construction.
• 27 COMPANY IDENTITY This page looks at the basic elements within company identities and how a firm can create a co-ordinated public image involving logos, stationery, vehicle liveries and so on.
• 29 HIDDEN CAUSES This page asks students to discover the cause of the poor performance of a company and present a written report, with suggestions for improving the firm's performance.
• 31 CATALOGUE CHOICES This page invites students to select items from office supplies catalogues to refurbish a specified office space. They have to account for their choices and consider an overall plan to which the chosen items contribute.
• 33 PICTURES NOT WORDS This page aims to emphasise the role of non-verbal communication, by asking students to locate and select images and support them with simple text to provide information for a foreign family visiting their area.
• 35 WHAT'S ON OFFER Students have to analyse complex information and produce written replies and confirmations to a variety of requests.
• 37 HEALTH AND SAFETY This page focuses on identifying potential hazards in a typical office and on the responsibilities of management and staff to provide a safe working environment and to maintain safe practices respectively.
• 39 SAFETY SIGNS This page looks at the images that are commonly used in safety signs in work places. Students are encouraged to think mainly about the visual aspects of these signs, and to use their conclusions from small group discussions to make drawings of new signs.
