You may think that bringing the full force of a formative assessment system to World Cup trivia is overkill, but we would beg to differ. The World Cup theme provides an excuse to touch on geography, geology, politics, history, statistics and morality.

More than that, it gives students an opportunity to take responsibility for their own learning targets. Built into every test is a target-setting device that controls the 'reward' animation at the end. I predict you will be surprised at the level of challenge even low attaining students will set themselves, when given a free choice.

They are fun, free, and ideal for filling in a spare 10 minutes during form periods or lessons.

The tests are engaging and flexible, come in three versions, easy, tricky and fiendish, and suit a variety of learning styles.

Key features

  • instant marking
  • formative feedback for every response
  • available at any time on the Web

Features popular with students

  • students can set themselves targets and see how they perform against them
  • students can see their percentage scores instantly
  • students choose their own avatars, characters that represent them in the tests. The choice of avatars includes a footballer, of course!

I enjoyed doing this myself. It's very quick and simple to complete. And you are right about it having a positve, motivating effect to find out that you actually know more than you may think you do!

I think this is fantastic. Very enjoyable and the pupils often underestimate their score which gives them confidence when they achieve more than projected.
