These tests cover NC Levels 3, 4, 5 and 5 with extension. They are taken at a computer, and marks are reported to you in real time. You can analyse the marks by student, by question or by question category.

Topics are:

  • Adding and subtracting
  • Doubling and halving
  • Finding percentages
  • Fractions, decimals and percentages
  • Multiples, factors and primes
  • Multiplication and Division
  • Multiply and divide by 10 and 100

Students take any given set of tests in sequence, starting at L3. The Markbook shows you the level that a student has attained; as the student completes the series, the accuracy of the Markbook level indicator increases.

Each test presents 20 questions selected at random from a set of up to 57 (in themselves drawn from a bank of 3,000). The sequence of questions is also randomised. As a result a student can attempt a test several times over, and get a fresh experience each time.

The tests run on our new avatar-based Cloze template. According to one recent teacher comment this is so compelling for learners that "my students did not even realise they were taking a test!"

As with most Yacapaca assessments, formative feedback is provided for students who enter an incorrect answer - usually as a suggested method.

The tests are fast-paced: students are allowed just 20s to work out each answer. We have found this actually aids student concentration, especially when working unsupervised or lightly-supervised. It also helps increase mental agility.

Potential uses

  • Baseline assessments in Year 7
  • Termly assessments
  • SEN support in KS4
  • Inclusion

...that blasted mask, the kids love it though. I kinda feel at home since I'm 1/4 American Indian. I've used the site alot, all my classes have their own account and homework can be set in seconds. <BR><I>Full quote in <a href="http://www.tes.co.uk/section/staffroom/thread.aspx?story_id=2436539&path=/Marketplace/&messagePage=1&messageID=4780836#message4780836" target="blank">TES Staffroom</a></I>

A fantastic tool for the teacher, while allowing the children to enjoy the test. One tiny flaw (and it is tiny, given how much the programme does already!) is that you can't grade children below a Level 3 - difficult for children who have not yet achieved that...
